Job summary

Duke Health's Outpatient Clinic in Durham, NC seeks a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join the on-site care team. The CMA will support physicians with patient intake, routine history taking, vital signs, and preparation for exams in a fast-paced clinic.

The role also includes administrative tasks such as scheduling, documentation, and coordinating referrals, while adhering to infection control and safety standards. Certification and relevant training are required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred; high school or GED graduation required.
• Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required (Level II–IV).
• 1 year of clinical experience for Level II; 2 years for Level III; 3 years for Level IV; ladder program may provide 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Take medical histories and vital signs; prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
• Assist clinical staff during examinations and procedures; collect specimens and perform basic lab tests.
• Greet patients, schedule appointments, file records, and manage billing and referrals.
• Maintain infection control, sterile techniques, and safety precautions in clinic.
