Job summary

Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina, is seeking a Medical Assistant, Certified to join a busy clinic team. The CMA will take histories, record vitals, assist with procedures, and support both medical and administrative staff to keep the office running smoothly.

Required are graduation from an accredited CMA program (CAAHEP/ABHES preferred), a high school diploma or GED, and appropriate certification with BLS.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited medical assistant program is strongly preferred.
• High school diploma or GED is required for Levels I–IV.
• Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA is required at appropriate levels.

Responsibilities

• Take medical histories and record vital signs, and prepare patients for examinations.
• Assist physicians and nurses with exams and procedures in the clinic.
• Collect and prepare lab specimens and perform basic tests.
• Discharge patients, coordinate scheduling, and maintain patient records.
• Handle telephoning prescriptions, refills, and insurance forms as directed.
