Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care under supervision and within a team-based setting. You will prepare and room patients, obtain vitals and histories, and help maintain the electronic health record per AHN workflows.

Essential duties include back‑office testing, assisting clinicians with exams and procedures, and potential scribe responsibilities with training. CPR certification and background clearances are required.

Qualifications

• High School / GED or Completion of a Medical Assistant Program.
• Certification requirements: employees who have graduated from a medical assistant program within five years or have one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years must complete certification training and/or testing within 30 days of hire and must obtain certification within 120 days of hire.
• Accepted Medical Assistant Certification (NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA).
• Employees who have not met certification criteria may have the opportunity to sit for a company proctored certification exam when qualified.
• CPR – American Heart Association
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient care under supervision of the health care provider.
• Prepare and room patients and obtain vitals and histories per standardized workflows.
• Review medication lists in the EHR and update social history.
• Perform back office testing and assist with examinations.
• May serve as a scribe with additional training.
• Provide follow up with patients at designated intervals and notify them of test results.
• Prepare exam rooms and maintain inventory of medical supplies.
• Sterilize instruments and perform lab controls as assigned.
• Accurately document in the EHR and complete clerical tasks.
• May travel between physician office locations.
