The role involves trauma‑informed patient care, vital signs, specimen handling, EHR documentation, and coordination of referrals and authorizations, all while maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completed accredited CMA certification program or equivalent training.
  • Must hold WA State Medical Assistant Certification or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records; EPIC preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist behavioral health providers with clinical tasks and care coordination.
  • Take and document vital signs, histories, and current symptoms; administer screening tools.
  • Prepare exam rooms, assist with procedures, and ensure smooth clinic flow.
  • Process referrals, prior authorizations, and medical records requests.
  • Perform CLIA waived tests, venipuncture, EKGs, vaccines as directed.
  • Document in the EMR promptly and accurately.
  • Maintain supplies and participate in team meetings and training.

Position Summary

In collaboration with the healthcare and administrative team and working within their scope of practice, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) supports behavioral health providers by providing clinical assistance, care coordination, and administrative support to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate outpatient services.This role combines traditional medical assisting skills with behavioral‑health‑specific competencies that adhere to Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide trauma‑informed, culturally sensitive support to patients who may be anxious, distressed, or new to behavioral health care.
  • Greet patients. Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, current symptoms and medication list. Administer screening tools.
  • Stock and clean exam rooms. Assists providers with procedures as needed.
  • Maintain a smooth flow and communication between patients, providers and clinic staff.
  • Appropriately obtain and process laboratory specimens.
  • Perform CLIA waived laboratory tests and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Perform venipunctures and EKGs; administer vaccines and medication as directed.
  • Document correctly in the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
  • Assist with medical provider requests and care coordination
    • Complete and track patient referrals
    • Process prior authorization and medical records requests
    • Respond to patient questions and medication refill requests
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure equipment is operational.
  • Attend team meetings and participate in process improvements.
  • Participate in training activities to increase professional skills.
  • Perform closing duties- lock doors, empty shred bins and set security alarm.
  • Follow HIPPA and 42 CFR Part 2 privacy laws and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, routine healthcare procedures, and clinical protocols.
  • Ability to type at least 45 wpm with no errors.
  • Command of computerized word processing programs.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment including computers, photocopiers and fax machine.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone and electronically.
  • Ability to empirically deescalate upset clients, identify concerns and provide solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize duties and multitask while working with interruptions.
  • Ability to provide on-time attendance.
  • Culture: Must have cultural sensitivity and be able to incorporate Native American community values in the health care process.
Position Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must have completed an accredited medical assistant certification program or equivalent training.
  • Must hold an unrestricted Washington State Medical Assistant Certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year experience as a medical assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records systems. Experience using EPIC is preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience is strongly preferred.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR/AED). Certification must be obtained within sixty (60) days of employment.
  • WA State Driver License and ability to be approved by Tribal insurance to drive Tribal vehicles if applicable.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening.
  • Specific level requirements are as follows:
    • Level I: Requires 0-3 years of experience as a CMA, pay grade 5.
    • Level II: Requires 3-10 years of experience as a CMA, pay grade 6.
    • Level III: Requires 10+ years of experience as a CMA, pay grade 7.
  • Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians is a drug-free workplace.All employees are subject to a pre-employment drug screen.
  • All employees must pass a pre-employment FBI fingerprint background and state background check.
Salary

$27.64 - 34.24 DOE
