Summary:

The Medical Assistant / Customer Service Rep is responsible for assisting physician(s) in providing quality patient care and may have routine interaction and working relationships with patients, family members, physicians, third-party payers, and other clinic and hospital team members. This position also performs clinic clerical tasks, such as registering patients, relieving staff members of clerical work and minor administrative and business details by scheduling appointments, giving information to callers, reading and routing incoming mail, filing correspondence and other records, and other assigned clerical duties. This position will require employee to float to all offices within the network practices. The position will provide coverage for individuals who are off for various reasons (e.g., sick, FMLA, vacation) and will require driving between practices.

Responsibilities:

  1. Communicates with patients and clinical staff to coordinate and schedule clinical visits across a wide range of clinical resources.
  2. Reviews and interprets incoming clinical orders delivered by phone and fax. Inputs orders into Electronic Medical Record (EMR) scheduling system. Reviews automated work queues to guide and prioritize outreach.
  3. Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, history of allergies. Inputs patient's history, demographic, and insurance details into EMR system. Reviews records for accuracy.
  4. Performs vital sign measurement and standard testing per clinic procedures.
  5. Coordinates and performs follow-up procedures as directed by a provider, including onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
  6. Assists with provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splints. Collects and prepares testing specimens for transport to offsite laboratories. Documents care into EMR. Ensures completion of necessary documentation and forms.
  7. Communicates with patients regarding their care, including test and lab results. Explains practice policies and procedures clearly and patiently, using cultural competency and active listening.
  8. Maintains and monitors supplies and medications for clinical operations. Promotes a safe, clean, and secure environment, applying infection control principles.

Other information:

Required:

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA CMA, AMT RMA, NHA CCMA, or NCCT NCMA).
  • Active Driver's License and transportation access.
  • BLS certification.
  • Ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and navigate the clinical area actively.

Preferred:

  • Prior clinical experience.
