We are a busy Primary Care Clinic at the Ambulatory Care Center in downtown Richmond. We are part of the Division of Internal Medicine Residency Program, supporting both attending-managed and resident-managed clinics for all levels of primary care and urgent care needs. Our clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with some flexibility. No weekends, nights, or holidays are required. Diversify your skill set with our team!
The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and the care plan under the physician's supervision.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
- Current Medical Assistant Certification from a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Healthcareer Association, American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment:
- Same as above, current certification required.
Experience REQUIRED:
- One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- No work experience needed if a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- Experience with personal computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office and email.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience PREFERRED:
- Two to three years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Experience in an academic healthcare environment.
Education/training REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Education/training PREFERRED:
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting training program (CAAHEP or ABHES accredited).
Independent actions required:
- Functions under supervision of a licensed practitioner, manager, or RN, providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving as per policies.
- Requires prior approval for schedule changes, legal issues, care deviations, and educational resource identification.
- May handle medications and related supplies.
Additional position requirements:
- Work all shifts, including weekends and holidays. Schedules are set with the Nurse or Practice Manager and may change as needed.
Physical and mental requirements:
- Lifting 20-50 lbs, prolonged standing/sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities, and adapt to change.
