Position Overview
The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the physician's supervision.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire
- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Association of Healthcare Professions, American Registry of Medical Assistants, or National Healthcare Association.
Requirements for Continued Employment
- Same as above: Current Medical Assistant Certification from a recognized national body.
Experience
- One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- No work experience required if a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- Previous experience with personal computers and software applications such as Microsoft Office and email.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Experience
- Two (2) to three (3) years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Experience in an academic healthcare environment.
Education and Training
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting training program (e.g., CAAHEP or ABHES accredited).
Additional Responsibilities
- Functions under supervision of licensed practitioners, managers, or RNs in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving.
- Requires prior approval for schedule changes, legal issues, and care deviations.
- May involve handling medications and supplies.
- Work schedule includes all shifts, weekends, and holidays, with rotations established with the Nurse or Practice Manager.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs, prolonged standing/sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
- Mental: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, reading, logical thinking.
- Emotional: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities, and adapt to change.
