Position Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and the plan of care, under the supervision of a physician.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire

• Current Medical Assistant Certification from a recognized national professional association (e.g., American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Healthcare Professions, American Registry of Medical Assistants, or National Healthcare Association).

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment

• Same as above.

Additional Certifications

• AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.

Experience

• Required: One year of medical assistant experience within the last three years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program; or no experience if a graduate.
• Preferred: Two to three years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant; experience in an academic healthcare environment.

Education/Training

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting training program (e.g., CAAHEP or ABHES).

Independent Actions

Functions under supervision, providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving in accordance with policies. Requires prior approval for schedule changes, legal issues, or care deviations. May involve handling medications and supplies.

Additional Requirements

Work all shifts, including weekends and holidays. Schedules are established with the Nurse or Practice Manager and may be adjusted as needed.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Lifting 20-50 lbs., prolonged standing/sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
• Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.

Work Environment

Fast-paced, requiring adaptability and ability to handle multiple priorities.
