Job Description
The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
Additional Requirements
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
- Experience REQUIRED:
- One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program
- No work experience if a graduate of a medical assistant program
- Experience using a personal computer and software applications, including Microsoft Office and email
- Strong organizational, problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience PREFERRED:
- Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
- Experience in an academic healthcare environment
- Education/training REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Education/training PREFERRED:
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting training program such as CAAHEP or ABHES
- Independent actions:
- Functions under supervision, providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving in accordance with policies.
- Requires prior approval for schedule changes, legal issues, or care deviations.
- May handle medications and supplies.
- Work Schedule:
- Work all shifts, including weekends and holidays. Schedules are set with your Nurse/Practice Manager and may be adjusted as needed.
- Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to lift 20-50 lbs, stand, sit, bend, walk, climb, reach
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking, reading, logical thinking
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities, adapt to change
