Job summary

Trinity Health System is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care under the direction of a health care provider and clinic supervisor. You will perform preliminary physical tests, record vital signs, and assist with specimen collection and administration of vaccines as directed by protocols.

You will greet patients, prepare exam rooms, document care plans, and communicate results to patients. Strong knowledge of medical terminology and safety practices is essential in this role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred but NOT required
• CMA certification preferred but NOT required.

Responsibilities

• Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures.
• Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider.
• Obtain and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications and presenting problems.
• May collect urine drug specimens, draw and collect blood samples for lab analysis.
• Administer medications and vaccines via oral, injections, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, or nasal routes.
• May perform routine tests including EKGs.
• Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up on completion.
• Communicate test results and care plans to patients by phone or mail as directed by the physician.
• Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; stock exam rooms; dispose of contaminated items per protocol.
• Document patient plans, tests and exam results in the medical record as directed.
• Escalate non-routine issues to the practice manager or healthcare provider.
• Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
• Protect patient safety and privacy rights.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment. Accurately performs preliminary physical tests such as: measures blood pressure, records, weight, temperature, pulse and respirations and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma (or GED equivalent)
• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred but NOT required
• CMA certification preferred but NOT required.

Required Licensure And Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 5 days

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Training

• Ability to perform urine drug screens, administer injections.
• Ability to effectively communicate to staff and patients.
• Demonstrated knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
• Through knowledge of the meaning and use of medical terminology and abbreviations.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
• Maintains a positive, caring attitude towards patients.
• Good computer skills using a medical management application.
• Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

Two year medical assistant experience preferred.
