Job summary

UVA Health in Charlottesville is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support in ambulatory settings under physician supervision. You will perform patient care, take vital signs, assist with examinations, and conduct basic lab tests including phlebotomy and ECG.

You will organize daily work, support the interdisciplinary team, reinforce patient education, ensure a safe care environment, and handle chart prep and scheduling.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Certification: AHA BLS required; Medical Assistant Certification from a recognized national association.

Responsibilities

• Assists in ensuring effective and efficient clinic operations with communication to team, providers, and patients.
• Participates in data collection for physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions.
• Completes standard rooming and clinical intake, data collection, and documentation.
• Provides clinical support during examinations and procedures (phlebotomy, testing, ECG, wound care, etc.).
• Organizes daily work to support patient needs and operational efficiency.
• Implements age-appropriate interventions as directed by the Health Care Provider.
• Reinforces patient/family teaching with approved materials.
• Maintains a safe environment and delivers care.
• Maintains supplies and equipment; documents and captures charges.
• Performs administrative duties (letters, forms, scheduling, refills, in-basket messaging, chart prep).
• Demonstrates teamwork and awareness of time-sensitive issues.
• Engages in professional development; other duties may be assigned.
