Job summary

Kalamazoo County Jail seeks a Medical Assistant to support its nursing staff in a 24-hour, secure facility. Responsibilities include medication administration, medical record maintenance, and medical supply management.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 6 months of additional training, 1–3 years of related experience, and AAMA certification within 6 months of hire. Benefits include retirement, life and disability insurance, EAP, paid sick leave and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6+ months of training beyond high school.
• 1–3 years of related work experience.
• AAMA certification or equivalent required within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist Jail nursing staff with patient care in accordance with nursing directives.
• Collect specimens; obtain vital signs; monitor blood glucose; perform urine testing; and administer injections, venipunctures, treatments, and routine diagnostic procedures.
• Operate medical equipment, conduct diagnostic testing, and record results in patient records and forms.
• Identify and report issues that may disrupt continuity of medical services.
• Maintain medical equipment and supply inventory; order medications and program materials as needed.
• Provides clerical support, including data entry and tracking inmate correspondence.
• Performs related duties as assigned
