Summary

The Medical Assistant, Certified functions as an integral member of the medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients, providing direct patient care and supporting clinical and administrative duties in a healthcare setting.

Work Performed
  1. Clinical responsibilities: Greet patients, answer phones, schedule appointments, take medical histories, record vital signs, assist with examinations and procedures, prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic tests, take electrocardiograms, change dressings, promote patient understanding, document in patient records, assist with medication administration, and perform other delegated clinical tasks.
  2. Administrative responsibilities: Schedule and check out patients, arrange hospital admissions and labs, update medical records, handle insurance billing, order supplies, and perform clerical duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent customer service skills, ability to lift and transport patients, knowledge of sanitation, sterile techniques, medical terminology, and safety procedures. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; Medical Assistant program graduation preferred. Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required, along with BLS certification.
