Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant On-the-Job Training Program is a cohort-based training program that begins in July 2026. Participants train together under the guidance of a Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse preceptor, gaining hands‑on experience and support necessary to become a qualified Certified Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Assist RN, Physician and other providers with direct patient care in the ambulatory setting.
• Work with a preceptor at entry‑level to support clinical and administrative duties.
• Perform identified procedures individually once competencies are demonstrated.
• Provide care to patients ranging from newborn to elderly within the age‑related categories.
• Execute clinical assistant responsibilities in a supportive clinical environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certified or ability to obtain certification within 3 months.
• Team‑oriented, dependable and eager to learn and grow in healthcare.
• Flexibility to work day‑shift rotation with availability for weekends and holidays as needed.

Licensure / Certification Requirements

• After completing the ICATAP apprentice program, CCMA Board Certification must be obtained within 12 months.
• Must register as a Medication Assistant III through the North Dakota Board of Nursing within 60 days of hire or transfer.
• Clinical Assistants are prohibited from administering medication before registration as an MAIII through the ND BON.

Compensation

Flat rate of $19.00 during the apprenticeship. Upon program completion, hourly wage increases to $21.72.
