Job summary

Essentia Health in Duluth, MN is seeking an entry-level Clinical Assistant in Training to support RNs and physicians in ambulatory settings. The apprentice will perform specified procedures under supervision once competencies are shown, and will care for patients from newborn to elderly per age-related guidelines.

The role requires a high school diploma, BCLS certification (or within 3 months), and participation in the Clinic Assistant Training Apprenticeship Program, with CCMA certification

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• BCLS certified or able to obtain within 3 months.
• Enrolled in the Clinic Assistant Training Apprenticeship Program.
• NHA CCMA certification required within 6 months or enrolled in Med Certs program.

Responsibilities

• Assist RN, Physician and other providers with direct patient care.
• Perform identified procedures independently once competencies are demonstrated.

Job Description

Under the guidance of a Certified Medial Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse preceptor works at an entry-level, assisting RN, Physician and other providers with direct patient care in the ambulatory setting to contribute to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. As an apprentice, the Clinical Assistant in Training will perform identified procedures individually once competencies have been demonstrated. Cares for patients ranging in age from newborn to elderly as noted on age-related category.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications

Certification/Licensure Requirements:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certified, or able to obtain within 3 months
• Enrolled in the Clinic Assistant Training Apprenticeship Program advancing through learning modules for 14 weeks as skills are acquired to perform the Clinical Assistant position. Upon completion of the apprentice program, NHA Board CCMA Certification is required within 6 months of completing the apprentice education program and the on the job hours requirement OR Enrolled in the Med Certs training program.
• LPNs cannot practice in this capacity.
