Job summary

UVA Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support in an ambulatory setting under supervision of the physician or designee. Duties include patient care, vital signs, labs, and data entry. The role serves all age groups with a focus on efficient clinic operations.

Requirements include a high school diploma, BLS certification, and a recognized Medical Assistant credential. Physical ability to stand and lift up to 50 lbs is expected.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: None required.
• Licensure: AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification required; current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association (AAMA, AMT, NAHP, ARMA, NHA).

Responsibilities

• Assist with clinical intake, data collection, and documentation.
• Provide clinical support during examinations and procedures (e.g., preparing specimens, testing, sterilization).
• Perform administrative support such as scheduling, filing, and in-basket messaging coverage.
• Demonstrate teamwork and adapt to time-sensitive patient care needs.
• Maintain supplies, safety, and accuracy of charges for services.
• Follow department policy to support patient health and wellness.
