Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE

Under the direction of the health care provider, the medical assistant participates in the delivery of patient care that promotes the well-being and safety of all patients.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs general patient care following established clinic workflows.
2. Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider by obtaining and recording vital signs, reviewing drug allergies and current medications, completing applicable screening questionnaires, and documenting the reason for visit.
3. Collects and prepares ordered specimens for laboratory analysis.
4. Prepares and provides ordered medications and/or vaccines to patients.
5. Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
6. Ensures patient exam rooms are stocked, clean, and orderly.
7. Escalates non-routine issues, questions, and concerns timely and appropriately.
8. Ensures safety checklists and quality controls are completed as required, and necessary actions are taken if indicated.
9. Performs other duties within scope of role as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education for Staff Job Levels

• Graduate of a medical assisting program accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
• Programs accredited by other credentialed bodies may be considered if the program included a formal externship.

Required Licensure and Certifications

• Active status on the Nebraska Medication Aide Registry within 90 days of hire.
• Current/valid nationally recognized certification, registration, or recognition for medical assistants (AAMA/CMA, RMA, NCMA), and Basic Life Support (BLS).
