Job summary

Ymca Of Central Maryland, Inc. is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and smooth operation of the pool during hours of operation. The role focuses on safeguarding members and guests and enforcing pool policies while maintaining a welcoming environment.

Candidates must hold current lifeguard and CPR/AED/First Aid certifications, pass the swim test, and be available for flexible shifts including evenings and weekends. Training is provided and the YMCA values guide daily conduct.

Qualifications

• Must have current lifeguard certification.
• Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification (or within 30 days of hire).
• Successful completion and passing of swim test.
• Flexible schedule, including days, nights and weekends.
• Completion of new associate training before scheduled to work.

Responsibilities

• Reports to work in uniform a minimum of ten minutes prior to assigned shift to receive communications and instructions from supervisor or previous lifeguard.
• Attend regular in-service training.
• Responsible for safety of all swimmers during shift and for interpretation and enforcement of pool rules.
• Responsible for chemical reading of pool conditions according to bathing code and adjust as necessary.
• Maintain upkeep of the pool area and equipment and notify supervisor of repairs or adjustments; may perform needed repairs as qualified.
• Prepare the program/service area with necessary equipment and return all equipment to storage.
• Actively engage, orient and assist all participants when not actively guarding.
• Promote a professional image and maintain a clean and safe environment at all times.
• Ability to work with diverse population of all ages, genders, and sexual orientations.
• Attend and participate in all meetings as assigned.
• Incorporate YMCA values into conduct and communicate the Y mission to the community.
• Assist in all other areas as assigned.
