Job summary

The Y in Central Maryland is seeking a Lifeguard to safeguard pool participants and guests during operating hours. You will enforce rules, respond to emergencies, and maintain pool safety and cleanliness while supporting YMCA programs and the mission of bettering communities.

Qualified candidates hold current Lifeguard and CPR/AED/First Aid certifications, complete the Y swim test, and demonstrate flexibility for varying shifts, including weekends.

Qualifications

• Must meet qualifications established by The Y in Central Maryland.
• Current Lifeguard certification.
• Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification (O2 within 30 days of hire).
• Successful completion of the Y swim test.

Responsibilities

• Monitor swimmers and enforce pool rules to ensure safety for members, guests, and class participants.
• Respond quickly to water-related emergencies.
• Conduct pool chemical checks and adjust as needed per safety standards.
• Maintain pool deck and equipment cleanliness and safety; report issues.
• Set up and store aquatic equipment before/after lessons or events.
• Engage positively with members when not guarding.
• Attend required in-service trainings and staff meetings.
• Promote an inclusive, respectful environment for all ages and backgrounds.
• Support YMCA programs and communicate the organization’s mission.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
