Job summary

The Y in Central Maryland is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and operation of the swimming pool during operating hours. You will safeguard members, class participants, and guests while enforcing pool guidelines and safety policies.

Responsibilities include monitoring swimmers, handling emergencies, performing chemical checks, maintaining the pool area, and supporting YMCA programs with a friendly, inclusive attitude.

Qualifications

• Must hold current Lifeguard certification.
• Current CPR/AED/First Aid certifications (O2 within 30 days).
• Must pass the Y in Central Maryland swim test.
• Flexible availability including days, nights and weekends.
• Complete new hire training including Child Abuse Prevention before first shift.
• Good character and professional demeanor; ability to follow directions.

Responsibilities

• Monitor swimmers and enforce pool rules to ensure a safe environment.
• Respond quickly to water-related emergencies.
• Conduct pool chemical checks and adjust according to safety standards and health codes.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the pool deck and equipment; report issues.
• Set up and store aquatic equipment for lessons or events.
• Engage positively with members and participants when not actively guarding.
• Attend all required in-service training and staff meetings.
• Promote an inclusive, respectful, and friendly environment for all ages.
• Support YMCA programs and communicate the organization’s mission to members and families.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
