Job summary

SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, IL, is seeking a Histology Technician to perform general histology duties under direct supervision and prepare tissue slides for microscopic examination by the pathologist.

Requirements include an Associate's degree or equivalent, no prior experience required, and the day shift from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. An ASCP Histotechnician license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent years of experience and education.
• No experience required.
• Histotechnician (HT) certification by ASCP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects, labels, processes and preserves tissue specimens.
• Prepares sections of tissue for examination and stains specimens.
• Operates lab equipment to fix, dehydrate, and process tissues for embedding and study.
• Performs embedding, cutting, and staining of tissues and cytology prep work.
• Maintains equipment and lab supplies; ensures safety and accuracy in procedures.
