Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Histology Technician to join the IL Central Lab. The role involves specimen accessioning, tissue processing, paraffin embedding, and slide preparation. Full-time day shift Tuesday–Saturday, 6:00 a.m.

to 2:30 p.m., in Rosemont, IL. No prior experience required; HT certification required; ASCP BOC approved. Competitive benefits and comprehensive rewards program.

Qualifications

• HT certification by ASCP BOC required.
• Advanced training beyond high school in biology or a related field.
• No experience required.
• Detail oriented, organized, and good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure specimens are accessioned, labeled, and suitable for testing.
• Cut tissue into appropriate thickness and place on slides.
• Embed tissue into paraffin blocks and maintain filing system for blocks/slides.
• Process tissue to preserve and infiltrate with paraffin; perform stains and IHC.
• Retrieval and printing of computer logs; manage workflow for recuts and special stains.
• Perform and document quality control; adjust actions with supervisor guidance.
• Troubleshoot and maintain instruments; assist pathologists during procedures.
• Ensure compliance with accrediting standards and assist team members.
