Job summary

OSS Health seeks a Certified Central Sterile Tech to clean, sterilize, and store surgical instruments for OR cases, ensuring availability via preference cards and proper par levels. You will maintain records and support instrument distribution across the facility.

The role requires CBSPD or CRCST certification (or completion within 18 months), a high school diploma, and at least one year of relevant experience; strong organization and computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 1 year of experience cleaning, assembling, wrapping and sterilizing surgical equipment.
  • CBSPD or CRCST certification required, or ability to obtain within 18 months.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains instrument sets/trays, ensuring items are available and intact.
  • Disassembles, cleans and disinfects instrumentation and equipment.
  • Restocks implant trays as needed.
  • Maintains records for decontamination area and sterilizers.
  • Routinely checks for damaged instruments.
  • Handles instruments to prevent damage or loss.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
  • Follows safety and infection control practices.
  • Assists with orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Ensures proper function of sterilizers and washer disinfectors.
  • Transports used and sterile instrumentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

The Certified Central Sterile Tech is responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, and storing all gas or steam sterilized items. Responsible for pulling case carts for OR cases per schedule, utilizing preference cards, and ensuring all needed items are present. Responsible for maintaining par levels and stocking for OR. Supports the philosophy and goals of OSS Health.

SCHEDULE OPTIONS
  • Swing/evening shift; 8 or 10-hour shifts
  • Day shift, 7:00am-5:30pm
  • Night shift, 11:00pm-7:30am (5 days/week)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains instrument sets/trays, ensuring proper items are available and intact.
  • Disassembles, cleans and disinfects instrumentation and equipment.
  • Restocks implant trays as needed.
  • Maintains needed records for decontamination area and sterilizers.
  • Routinely checks for broken, bent or rusted instruments.
  • Handles instruments and equipment properly to avoid damage and loss.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient, hospital and physician information.
  • Utilizes appropriate safety and infection control practices.
  • Assists with orientation and training of new personnel as assigned.
  • Maintains and ensures proper function of sterilizers and washer disinfectors.
  • Proper transport of all used and sterile instrumentation.
  • Work with a variety of instruments under limited supervision with strict guidelines and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
  • High School diploma or GED required.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least one year of experience in cleaning, assembling, wrapping and sterilization of surgical equipment/supplies preferred.
  • CBSPD or CRCST certification required, or pass within the first 18 months of employment.
  • Must have the ability to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources.
  • Must be able to plan and organize work.
  • Must have proficient computer skills.
  • Must possess professional and effective communication skills.
