Description

The Certified Surgery Technician ensures the safe and effective handling, cleaning, and sterilization of surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment used in operating rooms and other clinical areas. They maintain inventory, perform quality checks, and aid in maintaining departmental standards for infection control and safety.

Responsibilities

• Receive unused surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for operating rooms and other areas of the facility.
• Maintain reliable and punctual attendance, arriving on schedule each day.
• Communicate necessary information to other team members as appropriate.
• Disassemble, inspect, clean, reassemble, and sort contaminated supplies and equipment.
• Load, monitor, operate, and maintain various cleaning and sterilization equipment.
• Decontaminate and sterilize instruments, medical supplies, and equipment.
• Organize and assemble instrument trays for specific surgical cases (e.g., total knee replacement, sinus surgery, or gallbladder surgery) and fill special requests as needed.
• Maintain records of all decontaminations and sterilizations following organizational policies and procedures.
• Restock, label, and maintain inventory; submit requisitions.
• Perform environmental maintenance duties and assist in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and equipment storage areas.
• Verify equipment functions properly, requisition maintenance, repair or replacement; and remove defective equipment.
• Assist in maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives; and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
• Other related job duties as assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

• One (1) year relevant experience required.

Licenses & Certifications

• No professional license required.
• Preferred: Certification from Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Internal Association of Healthcare Central Services Material Management.
