Certified Camp Lifeguard (Security)

Overnight Camp St Croix in Hudson, WI is seeking Certified Lifeguards; flexible schedule starting June 1st through August 31st, Sunday - Friday, with benefits such as a free Y membership. The salary starts at $16.50 hourly, with consideration given to experience and background. The compensation package includes additional benefits and earned time off, varying by employment status.

1. Job Summary:

The Camp Lifeguard supervises the aquatics area to prevent accidents, assist swimmers, and respond to emergencies, creating a safe and positive environment in accordance with YMCA policies. Responsibilities include overseeing activities such as swimming and boating.

2. Essential Functions:

1. Supervise swimming activities in various settings, maintaining constant surveillance, understanding emergency procedures, and responding promptly.
2. Ensure policies and guidelines are known and followed, perform daily opening and closing procedures.
3. Supervise watercraft activities like canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, and motor boating, instructing participants as needed.
4. Serve as a role model, uphold safety and security rules, maintain cleanliness of aquatic areas.
5. Maintain current certifications in Lifeguarding and Oxygen Administration, attend trainings, and support camp activities outside aquatic programming when needed.
6. Perform first aid, respond to emergencies, and support camp check-in/out processes.

3. Relationships:

This role reports to the Program Director, interacting regularly with camp staff, campers, volunteers, and families, involving engagement with diverse communities.

4. Qualifications:

• Minimum age of 16.
• Current nationally accredited lifeguard certification (or able to obtain before duties commence).
• Certification in Oxygen Administration within 45 days of hire.
• Ability to perform all lifeguard skills, learn watercraft skills, recognize distress signals, and communicate effectively.
• Commitment to safety and the YMCA's mission and values.

5. Work Conditions:

• Pass lifeguard water test.
• Remain alert in various environmental conditions.
• Perform strenuous rescues, support physical tasks, and communicate effectively.
