Job summary

The City of Sarasota is seeking a Building Inspector to inspect new construction and alterations for code compliance, and to inform the public on interpretations of the Florida Building Codes.

Essential duties include issuing correction notices, coordinating final inspections for Certificates of Occupancy, and maintaining inspection records. Strong communication with the public is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Six years experience in construction
• Equivalent education/training/experience
• Possession of multiple state certifications
• Valid Florida Driver's License

Responsibilities

• Make technical inspections of buildings in construction, alterations and repairs.
• Check projects for defects and conformity with approved plans.
• Issue notices for correction and discuss changes with contractors/owners.
• Perform final inspections and issue Certificates of Occupancy.
• Maintain records and process inspection requests.
• Prepare reports on buildings in unsound condition or code violations.
