Job summary

The City of Sarasota is seeking a Building Inspector (Single License) to inspect new construction, additions, renovations and alterations for code compliance. You will inform the public on interpretations of the Florida Building Codes and work under the Building Services department.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, six years of construction experience, state certifications and a valid Florida driver's license.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of modern building construction practices, methods and materials.
• Thorough knowledge of local building codes.
• Ability to understand and interpret building codes, plans and specifications.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with contractors, architects, engineers and the public.

Responsibilities

• Inspect buildings for code compliance during construction, alterations and repairs.
• Issue notices for correction and discuss changes with contractors or owners.
• Make final inspections and issue Certificates of Occupancy when compliant with codes.
