Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, develops and directs the overall operation of the Activity Department.
  • Assures that an on-going program of activities is designed to meet the interests and physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
  • Develops and maintains a good working rapport with other departments in the facility to assure that administrative services and activities can be properly supported.
  • Ensures compliance with current federal and state regulations as well as professional standards for the facility and activities program.
  • Maintains a calendar of activities and effectively communicates it to residents.
  • Assists in the development, administration and coordination of department policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and communicates with staff members.
  • Oversees group activities.
  • Posts a monthly calendar of events.
  • Arranges travel to off-site activities.
  • Ensures that staff and participants follow all safety protocols.
  • Submits budgetary recommendations for equipment and supplies.
  • Monitors patient health and provides reports to caregivers.
  • Ensures all charted activity progress notes are informative, descriptive, accurate, and current.

Requirements:

  • Must be activities/recreation certified.
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience, minimum three years experience in long-term care.
  • CPR and First Aid are required within 90 days of employment, as provided by DMRC, to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and care standards.
  • Physical Requirements: Employee must be physically and mentally able to perform essential job functions which may require constant standing and walking; some lifting up to 50 pounds, and pushing carts and wheelchairs. Verbal ability to orient services to residents of varying abilities of mental and physical functioning and interests.
