Job summary

Savannah College of Art and Design seeks a ceramic shop technician to maintain a clean, safe studio for faculty and students, ensuring ongoing ceramics education and program growth. You will train students, manage kilns, monitor hours, and document exemplary student work.

You will also order clay, manage inventories, mix glazes, collaborate with faculty, and support SCADextra and SCADday events and student exhibitions in the studio.

Qualifications

• Work experience as a ceramic artist.
• Familiarity with studio equipment and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Train students on the proper use of studio equipment and procedures
• Monitor studio hours
• Manage loading, firing, and unloading of kilns and throwing wheels
• Photograph outstanding student work
• Order clay and supplies and research new materials and techniques
• Manage inventories
• Mix glazes and make clay
• Collaborate with ceramics faculty to meet studio equipment and supply expectations
• Support SCADextra workshops and SCADday programs, end of year exhibitions, and other special events
• Work with the ceramics club to host events and exhibitions in the studio
