The Ceramics Assistant Technician provides support to the ceramics area in the Studio Arts and Crafts Centre while working closely with the Lead Ceramics Technician. The Ceramics Assistant Technician also provides customer service to patrons while demonstrating a knowledge of ceramics crafts.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Maintain open communication with the Ceramics Lead and follow their guidance
- Maintain the ceramics area and equipment (involving frequent hours and stopping in regularly)
- Maintain open communication with Program and Operations Managers
- Assist the Ceramics Lead in giving general instruction and demonstrations for Ceramics Area Special Events
- Assist the Ceramics Lead in researching and recommending purchases for the ceramics area
- Plan and instruct some of the offered workshops in the ceramics area
Qualifications:
- Must enjoy working with people
- Must posses a working knowledge of all areas in the Studio Arts and Crafts Centre or being willing to learn more
- Must be willing to work SACC special events
- Must have a basic knowledge of ceramics and being willing to teach others about the craft
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds
- Must be able to operate SACC equipment
Working Conditions & Environmental Factors:
- This position involves working with and maintaining large equipment, particularly kilns, and clay recycling equipment
