The role oversees facility operations, staff, budget, and communications, and requires ceramic studio management experience, kiln operation, and collaboration with community groups and city programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fine Art with a concentration in Ceramics or closely related field
• Three years of recreation or related experience
• Four years of comparable experience as a pottery studio manager (preferred)
• Prior experience loading and firing kilns is required
• CPR and First Aid/AED Certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
• Previous experience working with youth and adults preferred
• Prior pottery teaching experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, and supervises a variety of arts and crafts programs (pottery, painting, drawing, dance, decorative and fiber arts)
• Plans, organizes, and supervises special events and day camps
• Works with local art clubs to provide recreational opportunities
• Serves as program leader or instructor as needed
• Coordinates center activities with city-wide programs and relates recreation functions
• Schedules use of center facilities
• Maintains a ceramic facility and kiln equipment
• Supervises staff and recruits, trains, evaluates personnel
• Prepares and maintains records, reports, time sheets, and accident reports
• Oversees operating budget, expenditures and revenue tracking
• Represents center on community committees and maintains relationships with art agencies
• Conducts facility inspections and coordinates maintenance
• Reports damages and losses
• Collects fees and memberships
• Develops marketing and communications for the center (social media, Constant Contact)
