Job description

We are looking to develop entrepreneurial spirited leaders who appreciate the backing of an industry leading company, and mentorship from successful leaders who are simultaneously building their own companies within Pennant. If you are seeking an opportunity to create, innovate and lead your own company with our support, then we have the right opportunity for you!

About the Company

Pennant Services is one of the most dynamic and progressive companies in the rapidly expanding senior living, home health, hospice, and home care industries. Affiliates of Pennant Services now operate more than 104 senior living, home health, hospice, physician services, and home care operations across 14 Western states and we are growing! These operations have no corporate headquarters or traditional management hierarchy. Instead, they operate independently with support from the “Service Center,” a world-class service team that provides centralized clinical, legal, risk management, HR, training, accounting, IT, and other resources to enable on-site leaders and caregivers to focus on care and business issues.

Our culture is defined by our core values, “CAPLICO”: Accountability, Passion for Learning, Love One Another, Celebrate, and Ownership. These principles foster a culture where employees feel valued and are excited about their impact, promoting personal and professional excellence and development.

About the Opportunity

The CEO-In-Training (CIT) role is designed to prepare proven leaders for an executive Director position, overseeing a Pennant affiliated company. The CIT Program is a full-time, paid executive training program lasting approximately 6-12 weeks, depending on experience and industry knowledge. Successful CITs will be supported to lead a local company, with mentorship from experienced leaders, to gain a comprehensive understanding of our culture, operating models, systems, and leadership requirements.

The program includes hands-on training in all operational roles, shadowing clinicians, administrative staff, and studying relevant regulations and curriculum to develop operational expertise. CITs are expected to undertake projects, assume responsibilities, and identify opportunities for improvement in their host operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assess strengths and weaknesses using the CIT Competency Checklist to set objectives.
  2. Meet weekly with their preceptor (Executive Director) to review progress.
  3. Engage with leadership team members regularly to communicate needs and opportunities.
  4. Observe various roles within the company to understand responsibilities and best practices.
  5. Participate in quarterly Boot Camp training sessions.
  6. Join weekly New Leader calls, cluster calls, and provide feedback within Pennant Group core values.
  7. Demonstrate financial controls including P&L management, cost management, and accounts receivable.
  8. Perform clinical controls such as quality ratings, CAHPS, workflow, and QAPI.
  9. Represent the company in the community and support business development.
  10. Gain familiarity with EHR systems like HCHB, SHP, Knowledgelink, etc.

Additional tasks may be assigned as needed to support business operations.

Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of proven leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; MBA or MHA is a plus.
  • Ability to pass state licensing exams (requirements vary by state).
