Job summary

X4 Engineering is seeking a Central Utility Controls Engineer in Houston, TX to lead the design, development, testing, and commissioning of automation systems for boilers, chillers, water treatment, and BOP processes. The role combines PLC/DCS/HMI expertise with solid process control knowledge.

You will develop specifications, programs, FAT/SAT plans, and support startup and commissioning, with industry-standard platforms and an expected travel of about 25%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline.
• 3–6 years of controls, automation, or process controls experience.
• Experience with PLC, DCS, and HMI systems (Rockwell/AB, AVEVA, Ignition, DeltaV).
• Experience with boiler controls, BMS, chillers, water treatment, CHP, or BOP.
• Familiarity with Modbus, EtherNet/IP, DNP3, OPC, BACnet, or Profinet.
• Ability to travel approximately 25%.

Responsibilities

• Develop functional specifications, SOO, and BOMs.
• Design, program, test, and deploy PLC, DCS, and HMI systems.
• Support electrical drawing and controls documentation packages.
• Develop and execute FAT and SAT test plans.
• Support loop checks, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Develop controls solutions for boilers, chillers, water systems, CHP, BOP.
• Provide customer technical support and training.
