Corewell Health’s Troy Hospital is seeking a Part-time Sterile Processing Technician to support the operating rooms with clean, sterile instrumentation. You’ll inspect, assemble, and distribute patient care instruments per AAMI standards, prioritizing to match surgical schedules.

Must complete a sterile processing program and hold CSPDT or CRCST certification within 1 year. The role offers a sign-on bonus up to $1500 for new hires and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, disinfect, assemble, and distribute patient care instruments per established policies and AAMI standards.
• Store, rotate, and label instruments and supplies accurately.
• Prioritize processing based on surgical schedules and physician needs.
• Test equipment and instrumentation using insulators/ leak testers to ensure sterilization.

Part time days, 6am - 2:30pm, variable weekends.

Corewell Health is offering up to $1500 as a sign on bonus for this opportunity for new hires!

About the unit

This unit is a level 2 trauma center with 20 operating rooms in our Area D tower and 6 procedure rooms in our Area A suite. Approximately 45% of our cases are comprised of total joints and ortho cases. The remaining 55% of cases are comprised of General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic, Spine, Vascular and ENT surgeries. Troy Central Processing is a direct supporting unit for surgery. Daily, CPD produces anywhere from 450-750 instrument trays, we service the operating rooms and all the supporting ancillary units within the hospital that require the use of sterile equipment. We have two types of sterilization processes on site, high temperature steam and low temperature hydrogen peroxide and utilize state of the art equipment to ensure that our patients are provided clean, sterile instrumentation for each surgical procedure in house. Central processing is a team environment, as technicians, coordinators and central processing support staff work together to ensure that our patients, OR team and the surgeons have everything they need to have a successful surgery.

Scope of work

Responsible for inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing and distributing patient care instruments, equipment and supplies in accordance with established policies, procedures and Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies. Stores, rotates and ensures all instruments and supplies are correctly labeled.

Instrument Processing & Sterilization

• Cleans and inspects soiled instruments using proper PPE.

• Tests equipment with tools like insulation and leak testers to ensure sterilization.

• Assembles instruments per established standards and IFUs.

Quality & Accuracy

• Strives for zero defects through thorough inspections.

• Maintains a low error rate and high productivity.

Team Support & Communication

• Serves as a role model and resource for peers.

• Responds to phone requests and departmental issues professionally.

Workflow & Prioritization

• Prioritizes processing based on surgical schedules and physician needs.

• Handles vendor trays and complex instrumentation efficiently.

Technical Proficiency

• Differentiates instrument functionality and specialties.

• Monitors sterilization equipment and submits repair requests as needed.

• Expertly assembles high-complexity trays like implants and ambulatory kits.

Customer Service

• Ensures timely, professional handling of all customer area requests.

Qualifications
