Job summary

SpartanNash in Elkhart, IN is seeking a hands-on Department Manager to lead daily department operations in a retail store, ensuring staff coverage, training, scheduling, and adherence to company standards.

You will manage inventory, supervise a team, align with ads and promotions, enforce food safety, and drive performance using weekly plans and KPIs, while developing associates and meeting goals.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 0–2 years of retail experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organization, prioritization, decision-making and problem solving.
• Leadership abilities with hands-on management style.
• Knowledge of retail store operations and systems.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Spanish communication is highly desirable depending on location.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day department operations in a retail store to meet company goals and KPIs.
• Order and maintain inventory; apply markdowns to minimize loss and ensure freshness.
• Validate received orders for amount, quality, and condition; store properly.
• Supervise a team for stocking, production, and other tasks to ensure quality and timing.
• Ensure familiarity with store products, ads, and promotions; support weekly flight plans.
• Assist with scheduling, labor control, overtime, and payroll for the department.
• Enforce food safety, safety, cleaning expectations and guest experience guidelines.
• Attend daily huddles and meetings; participate in district/company level meetings as required.
