Job summary

The University of Houston System's Center for Student Empowerment seeks a Program Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of a small/medium university program, focusing on first-generation student success and engagement.

You will develop and assess initiatives, coordinate First-Generation programs, provide advising and referrals, and support mentoring and academic success. All positions at UH System are security-sensitive and Equal Opportunity Institutions. Everyone is encouraged to apply.

  • Develop, implement, and assess programs, workshops, events, and outreach initiatives with a primary emphasis on first-generation student success.
  • Coordinate signature First-Generation initiatives, including First-Generation Week and other engagement programs.
  • Provide advising, guidance, referrals, and resource connections to help students navigate institutional, academic, financial, and personal barriers.
  • Support mentoring, leadership development, financial empowerment, academic success, and other CSE initiatives.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging practices related to first-generation and vulnerable student success.
  • Support additional CSE programs and departmental priorities as assigned.

Description:

Manages the day-to-day operations of a small or medium-sizeduniversity program or department. May supervise staff employees,student workers, programs or processes.

  1. Plans and develops procedures for administering a small ormedium-sized department or program.
  2. Oversees program expenditures and ensures adherence tobudget.
  3. Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluatesperformance.
  4. May prepare or participate in the creation of abstracts,research reports, funding proposals, operations and proceduremanuals, and other written material and documentation.
  5. Reviews reports of budgets and activities.
  6. Prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
  7. May administer grants and grant-related related communications,scholarships and other operations.
  8. Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies andprocedures.
  9. May serve as property custodian for the department.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MQ: Education:

Requires a thorough understanding of boththeoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical orprofessional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than oneprofessional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normallyobtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree froma college or university or an equivalent in-depth specializedtraining program that is directly related to the type of work beingperformed. The CSE Program Manager is responsible for developing andcoordinating initiatives that support the retention, persistence,engagement, and graduation of first-generation students and othervulnerable student populations. The position works collaborativelywith CSE leadership and campus partners to strengthen studentsuccess and reduce barriers to degree completion.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop, implement, and assess programs, workshops, events, andoutreach initiatives with a primary emphasis on first-generationstudent success and support for other vulnerable studentpopulations.
  • Coordinate signature First-Generation initiatives, includingFirst-Generation Week and other engagement and recognitionprograms.
  • Provide advising, guidance, referrals, and resource connectionsto help students navigate institutional, academic, financial, andpersonal barriers.
  • Support the First-Generation Committee and collaborate withcampus partners to strengthen university-wide first-generationefforts.
  • Develop strategies to increase student engagement, retention,persistence, and progress toward graduation.
  • Track participation and student-success outcomes and assist withassessment and reporting.
  • Support mentoring, leadership development, financial empowerment,academic success, and other CSE initiatives.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging practices related tofirst-generation and vulnerable student success.
  • Support additional CSE programs and departmental priorities asassigned.
