Job summary

SCI in Monee, Illinois is seeking a Cemetery Groundskeeper to maintain lawn areas and assist with graveside ceremonies. You will clear debris, set up chapels, and help with interments, entombments and marker installations, while keeping equipment clean and safe.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 6 months of relevant experience. Must be able to lift 150 lbs with assistance and handle weather extremes; good communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Education: High school education or equivalent or relevant work experience.
• Experience: Minimum 6 months of relevant experience.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment; measure with tape or yard-stick; ability to walk/stand long periods; lift up to 150 lbs with assistance; push/pull up to 300 lbs; communicate effectively with associates and clients.

Responsibilities

• Cuts grass, maintains lawn, trims around trees, walkways and markers; lays sod; moves flowers for chapel and graveside.
• Clears debris; maintains drives/walkways; snow removal as needed.
• Erects tents and arranges chairs for graveside ceremony.
• Assists with openings/closings for interments and entombments; arranges chapel for services.
• Prepares crypts for entombments; operates backhoe under supervision; installs grave markers and crypt faces.
