Job summary

The City of Rocky Mount is seeking a capable Cemetery Grounds Maintenance Worker to operate light construction equipment and maintain cemetery grounds across three cemeteries. Responsibilities include backhoe operation for graves, mowing, and landscaping tasks to keep grounds neat and in good condition.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid NC driver's license, and experience with outdoor work and tools such as backhoes and mowers. CDL is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid NC driver's license required.
• Experience with outdoor work and operating backhoe, mower, weed eater, chain saw and related tools.
• CDL preferred but not required; ability to follow oral and written instructions and learn cemetery procedures.

Responsibilities

• Safely operates a backhoe to open and close graves and uses mowing equipment for cemetery grounds maintenance.
• Assist with cleaning cemetery buildings, litter removal, and landscaping tasks such as pruning, raking leaves, and adjusting foot markers.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance on equipment to minimize downtime.
• Respond on weekends to assist in opening/closing graves according to funeral schedules.
• Occasionally operate tractor with dump trailer and pickup with trailer; may fill in for Crew Supervisor as needed.
