Job summary

New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore, MD, seeks a full-time Cemetery Groundskeeper to maintain grounds and support burial services. The role is year-round with a strong focus on safety and customer care for families and visitors.

Responsibilities include operating a backhoe, mowing and grounds maintenance, map reading, and assisting with grave setups. The position requires a high school diploma and some experience, with occasional Saturday hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least two years cemetery groundskeeping experience preferred.
• Experience operating a backhoe for grave excavation required.

Responsibilities

• Operate a backhoe safely and efficiently to facilitate burial services.
• Operate lawn and grounds equipment, including push and riding mowers, snow blowers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers, and other related power equipment as needed.
• Remove debris and trash from cemetery grounds.
• Participate as a team member in setting up tents, chairs, and burial service equipment at two locations.
• Read cemetery maps to determine the location of burial sites.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to cemetery facilities and building systems.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures and ensure compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and environmental guidelines.
• Assist with the installation and relocation of burial vaults, cemetery monuments, and concrete monument foundations.
• Work a full-time schedule, Monday through Friday, with some scheduled Saturday hours as needed.
