Job summary

Cogent Scientific, an insourced contract research organization, is seeking a Cell Culture Biologist to support mammalian cell culture operations and banking. The role involves expanding, cryopreserving, and dispensing cell stocks while maintaining meticulous records.

The position is onsite, day shift (approx. 8a-5p local time), with responsibilities including shipments, ELN documentation, and collaboration across functions to ensure quality and timely results.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in biology, cell biology, molecular biology, or related field with minimum 4 years in mammalian cell culture.
  • Proficiency in sterile technique to maintain sample integrity and prevent contamination.
  • Experience supporting preparation/shipment of cell lines/cell cultures.
  • Experience maintaining accurate record-keeping within the Electronic Laboratory Notebook.
  • Basic tissue culture techniques such as cell propagation, cryopreservation, and maintenance.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and other systems to improve processes and drive efficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Generate high-quality cell line stocks covering expansion, cryopreservation, record-keeping, storage, and dispensing.
  • Manage multiple suspension, adherent and mixed cell cultures simultaneously.
  • Coordinate domestic and international cell line shipments, following packaging standards and temperature controls.
  • Maintain accurate ELN records and ensure compliance with documentation standards.
  • Support cell line inventory management and identify process efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to resolve workflow and shipping issues.
  • Contribute to a clean, safe, and well-supplied laboratory environment.
  • Communicate clearly with colleagues and cross-functional teams.

We currently have a role available for a Cell Culture Biologist.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Generate high-quality cell line stocks to support ongoing research needs, covering the full banking lifecycle including expansion, cryopreservation, record-keeping, storage, and dispensing to ensure long-term availability and integrity of cell stocks.
  • Manage multiple suspension, adherent and mixed suspension-adherent cell line cultures simultaneously, applying best practices and escalating technical issues as needed.
  • Coordinate domestic and international cell line shipments, following packaging standards, temperature controls, timelines, and other shipment requirements.
  • Maintain accurate record-keeping within the Electronic Laboratory Notebook, ensuring entries are complete, accurate, and compliant with documentation standards.
  • Support accurate cell line inventory management, including data entry, and identify opportunities for process efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI tools and other systems to streamline documentation, tracking, and reporting workflows, contributing to continuous process improvement.
  • Collaborate with team members and other stakeholders to help resolve workflow and shipping issues, building strong working relationships across functions.
  • Contribute to a clean, safe, and well-supplied laboratory environment, speaking up to address concerns and following through on corrective actions.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and cross-functional teams, ensuring information is accurate and timely to support effective collaboration.
Job requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • BA/BS in biology, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of experience working with mammalian cell culture.

  • Proficiency in sterile technique to maintain sample integrity and prevent contamination.

  • Experience supporting the preparation/shipment of cell lines/cell cultures.

  • Experience maintaining accurate record-keeping within the Electronic Laboratory Notebook.

  • Basic tissue culture techniques such as cell propagation, cryopreservation, and maintenance.

  • Experience leveraging AI tools and other systems or software to improve processes, drive efficiencies, and support operational streamlining.

  • Strong organization, communication, and teamwork skills.

  • The physical demands of this job include the ability to lift up to 20 lbs, including safe handling of liquid nitrogen storage systems and use of required personal protective equipment.

  • The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
