Job summary

CDM Smith's CEI team seeks a field inspector to monitor and inspect transportation construction activities at project sites across the United States, including Pittsburgh, Lisle, Fairmont, Nashville, Raleigh and beyond.

The role requires reading plans, applying construction knowledge, and communicating results to supervisors. Valid driver’s license and 6 years of related experience are expected, with 20–40% travel. This is an on-site field position supporting complex infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or NICET/ACI in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by client.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Six years of related experience; equivalent experience considered.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency contingent on duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex and routine inspections to ensure materials and processes meet plans and specs.
• Use high-grade equipment and perform calculations for construction inspection.
• Review drawings to prepare for inspections and document results for supervisor.
• Read and explain construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications to the team.
