Job summary

HMB Professional Engineers, LLC is seeking a CEI Inspector with extensive CEI experience for TDOT projects. The role will involve field surveys, construction layout, inspections, and coordination of lower level inspectors in TN.

A hybrid work arrangement is available with travel to Nashville or Chattanooga as needed. Required: 8+ years CEI, TDOT project exposure, TN driver’s license with clean MVR, and ability to pass drug screening and background checks.

Qualifications

• 8+ years CEI experience including TDOT projects.
• Valid TN Driver's license with clean MVR.
• Willingness to travel and perform field inspections.
• Drug screening and background check required.

Responsibilities

• Located to Nashville or Chattanooga, TN with field inspection duties.
• Perform complex field surveying, construction layout, marking, and checks.
• Inspect construction work and conduct field tests.
• Coordinate and manage lower level inspectors.
• Work under supervision of the Project Administrator.
• Set own project deadlines and provide on‑the‑job training.
• Monitor quality, performance, and code compliance.
• Maintain daily field inspection records and participate in punch lists.
• Support testing, commissioning, and area/equipment turnovers.

Description

HMB Professional Engineers is seeking a CEI Inspector with experience in Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI), particularly on Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) projects.

Key Responsibilities

• The Inspector will be assigned to work in Nashville or Chattanooga, TN.
• Performing highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, marking, and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests
• Coordinating and managing the lower level inspectors.
• Performing work under the general supervision of the Project Administrator.
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Sets own project deadlines.
• Provides on the job training to new employees.
• Monitoring conformance to quality, performance, specifications, and/or code requirements by performing inspection duties.
• Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records.
• Participates in punch lists, testing, and commissioning.
• Tracks quality assurance progress.
• Provides input to documentation for area and equipment turnovers.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 8+ years of related CEI experience including work on TDOT projects.
• Maintain the physical endurance to work in various outdoor environments, including extreme heat and cold.
• Candidates must be trustworthy and responsible.
• Daily travel and or overnight stays may be required depending on project needs.
• Valid TN Driver's license, have a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
• Successful completion of drug screening and background check
