Department Information

Governor Polis announced on May 4, 2023, that this classification (if working within a 24/7 facility) is eligible for a non-base building temporary pay of 2.8% through June 2025.

Position located in Denver, Colorado.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide mental health services including evaluations, assessments, and interventions;
  • Maintain accurate records of inmate mental health needs;
  • Offer group, individual, and crisis therapy, participate in 24-hour on-call rotation;
  • Ensure safe transfer for inmates with acute needs;
  • Provide clinical guidance to staff;
  • Ensure continuity of care through proper referrals and documentation;
  • Document all interactions comprehensively;
  • Monitor inmate treatment and concerns;
  • Maintain safety and security of the environment;
  • Report safety violations and attend relevant training.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy from an accredited institution, with transcripts attached;
  • Valid permit or license from Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (e.g., Licensed Social Worker, Psychologist, etc.).
Additional Requirements

Ensure your work experience section is complete and detailed to assist in compensation determination. Rehired employees may return at prior pay rates based on their previous time in the series. Submit all relevant documentation, including transcripts and licenses, with your application.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degrees or licensure in relevant mental health fields;
  • Experience in correctional settings;
  • Ability to provide comprehensive mental health treatment and documentation;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
