Department Information

$25,000 Hiring Incentives for Clinical Professionals for full-time positions: Payout will be $5,000 after the completion of the academy, $5,000 after 4 months, $5,000 after 8 months, and $10,000 at 12 months.

Governor Polis announced on May 4, 2023, that this classification (if working within a 24/7 facility) is eligible for non-base building temporary pay of 2.8% through June 2025.

Description Of Job

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides professional mental health services to perinatal and postnatal inmates, including evaluations, assessments, and interventions;
  • Oversees self-directed cognitive education programming for inmate mothers;
  • Conducts individual and group sessions with inmate mothers;
  • Observes and monitors inmate mothers with their newborns;
  • Coordinates with community partners;
  • Provides mental health services for general inmate population with mental illness;
  • Ensures accurate documentation and information system updates;
  • Provides clinical direction to staff;
  • Documents inmate mental health care;
  • Monitors treatment and provides counseling;
  • Ensures safety and security in the clinical environment;
  • Informs supervisor of safety/security violations and attends training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy, with transcripts attached;
  • Current, valid permit or license from Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies;
  • Ensure work experience section of application is complete and relevant;
  • Rehiring or reinstatement within six months is at previous pay rate or based on class series time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree from an accredited program (CACREP, CSWE, AAMFT, COAMFTE, APA);
  • License eligibility as a mental health professional;
  • Experience in correctional mental health treatment.

Required Competencies

  • Ability to provide mental health treatment to inmates;
  • Efficiency and participation in on-call rotation;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and with diverse populations;
  • Maintain licensure and provide comprehensive documentation;
  • Read, write, and communicate fluently in English;
  • Create accessible and clear documents.
