Job summary

Republic Services is seeking a Driver Trainee who will be trained to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and then assume a Driver role across Residential, Commercial, Industrial, or Roll-Off lines of business. The program includes classroom study, on-route training, and resources to pass the CDL exam, followed by a 12-month employment period after CDL attainment.

Post-CDL progression will involve learning pre-/post-trip inspections, safe operation of heavy trucks on routes, and adherence

Qualifications

• No prohibitions to acquiring a commercial drivers’ license.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete Republic Services’ CDL training program, including classroom study, on-route training, driving experience and resources to take the CDL exam.
• Complete twelve (12) full months of employment with Republic Services after obtaining a CDL.
• Learn to perform pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels and safety equipment are in order.
• Learn to safely operate a heavy or commercial truck along a designated route and service each customer per route sheet.
• Operate manual and/or automatic controls to lift and load refuse, operate the packer and dispose of material at the facility.
• Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag containers as required.
• Monitor waste for unacceptable materials and ensure assigned vehicle remains operationally ready.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures; after CDL, perform Driver responsibilities in a line of business.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
