The City of Yakima, WA is hiring a temporary, non-civil service Solid Waste Worker to assist in collection operations. You will drive and operate heavy vehicles, assist in loading debris, clean equipment, and maintain logs while meeting DOT and safety requirements.

The position is limited to 866 work hours per year and requires a valid WA driver’s license with CDL in training within nine months. Must be 18+, have a high school diploma or GED, and at least six months of related manual labor

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ and have a high school diploma or GED with six months related manual labor experience.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid WA CDL (A/B/C as required) and First Aid/CPR within six months of appointment.
• Must meet DOT requirements including periodic physicals and drug screenings.

Responsabilités

• Assist Solid Waste Collector/Driver with collecting special hauls and debris.
• Drive or operate a heavy special purpose vehicle for refuse collection.
• Deliver and remove metal bins and clean vehicles and containers.
• Maintain logs, report hazardous waste, and follow safety procedures.
• Keep work area clean and organized; fuel equipment and perform basic maintenance.
• Provide safe operations and customer service to internal and external customers.
