Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Blair County invites applications for a six-month Transportation Equipment Operator A CDL Trainee. This trainee position provides hands-on training operating heavy trucks and performing maintenance tasks to support highway and bridge work.

During the program you will learn equipment checks, basic field operations, safety procedures and environmental compliance while contributing to essential public services in Hollidaysburg.

Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
• Active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with FMCSA by start date.
• Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit with Air Brake Restriction removed at time of application.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate heavy trucks and loaders and complete pre-operation and post-operation checks
• Perform manual labor using hand and power tools for maintenance tasks
• Follow safety procedures, wear protective gear, and report injuries or incidents
• Observe work areas for hazards and communicate findings to crew members
• Carry out environmental protection steps required for maintenance activities
• Install tire chains, use hand and foot controls, and perform basic equipment adjustments
