Job summary

PennDOT is seeking a CDL Operator Trainee to learn to operate heavy equipment and perform highway and bridge maintenance across Pennsylvania. This hands-on role develops practical skills on real projects that serve communities, with the opportunity to grow confidence and take on new challenges.

You will train to operate trucks, loaders and other equipment, conduct pre/post inspections, and follow safety practices.

Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C license required.
• Must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Learner's Permit on first day.
• Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate required by FMCSA regulations on first day.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate heavy trucks, loaders, and other construction equipment safely.
• Perform pre-operation and post-operation inspections and document results.
• Follow proper safety procedures and use protective gear.
• Identify hazards on the worksite to protect coworkers and travelers.
