Job summary

The City of Olympia’s Public Works Department has openings for 2 temporary Maintenance Worker I positions in the Stormwater/Wastewater Operations Work Unit. The role requires a Class B CDL (Class A preferred) and will start June 1, 2026, lasting up to nine months.

Typical duties include basic maintenance of city buildings, grounds, signage, and street-related tasks; teamwork and safety are essential, with training provided on equipment and procedures.

Qualifications

• One year's general work experience is required.
• CDL is required; Class B minimum.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical activity.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic upkeep, repair and cleaning of city buildings and property.
• Assist with maintenance activities in Public Works, Parks, Olympia Center, and City facilities.
• Perform basic pruning, fertilizing and transplanting; brush and litter removal; operate tractors, hand/power tools; fertilizer application devices.
• Assist with street repairs and winter sanding operations; shoveling materials; operate hand/power tools.
• Drive pickup and dump truck; operate rollers, paving machines, backhoes or street sweepers.
• Assist with street signs and markings, guard rails, curbing and sidewalk repairs.
• Dig ditches and lay sewer/water/stormwater pipe; monitor pumps for proper operation; maintenance holes and pavement repairs.
• Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.
