Job summary

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) seeks a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead to keep Alaska’s roads and airports running safely. This role may include paid CDL training opportunities and a bi-weekly tool allowance.

Work in Cantwell, AK, with travel to remote sites and exposure to diverse weather and challenging conditions, maintaining and repairing heavy and light equipment across public infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, their designs, uses, benefits, repair and maintenance.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions, information, or obstacles.
• Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including design, repair and maintenance.
• Self-management with initiative, minimal supervision, and timely task completion.

Responsibilities

• Maintain heavy-duty and light-duty equipment and vehicles for roads, airports, and other public works.
• Diagnose, repair and modify transmissions, drive trains, suspensions, engines, emissions, fuel systems, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve unusual or complex equipment problems and perform routine and specialized repairs.
